Lifecycle of Domain - after expiring?

I'm curious, what's happening to a domain after expiration?

How expiration affects the age of the domain?

If a domain is being expired for a long time, could be considered as aged domain after years?

Usually, a domain name is not available for renewing a registration after expiration date. Most registrars allow a grace period that can be as short as one or two weeks.

Expiration does not affect the domain age. If a particular domain has been registered for the first time in 2000, then even expiration, every year is counted since 2000 and it's considered as an aged domain.
